We had an AMAZING outdoor maternity photography session at the Cherry Blossoms in Dover NJ! To say the stars lined up perfectly for mamma and I, is an understatement! She contacted me to book her maternity session and envisioned the session with beautiful pink blossoms. Although we weren’t clear of when they exactly bloomed perfectly, we penciled a date close to when they would be blooming. Pregnancy journey is amazing and I felt that her vision for here portraits is a priority. Since the park is close by, I was able to confirm the perfect date for this beautiful maternity experience. I quickly let her know of the availability, and we scheduled. I truly believe the stars lined up for us from the day she contacted me.

SCHEDULING YOUR MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

Outdoor maternity photography session is scheduled about an hour or so before sunset time, or when the sun is not too harsh. I must say the weather was absolutely perfect for her session! We met at Hurd Park (known for the Cherry Blossoms in the spring) early evening, just when the sun was golden providing gorgeous light for her portraits. Wearing a gorgeous white maternity gown that fit her beautifully! Through out her maternity photography session, I felt her joy, and saw happiness in her eyes. Daddy to be was also gleaming with happiness. Capturing their bond and joy as they become first time parents is the most amazing feeling as a photographer.

This amazing family welcomed their rainbow baby boy after the loss of their baby girl the previous year. Rainbow babies are so special for so many family, Including my very own. My son lights up my life everyday, I’m so lucky to been given the gift of mommy. This little baby boy lit up the world and lives of everyone in his family with his arrival. He is so perfect, I couldn’t get over his adorable tiny features and stylish hair and chunky cheeks.

Newborn baby Props

To celebrate him at his newborn baby photo session, we incorporated beautiful colors of the rainbow that complemented his gorgeous newborn skin. Using props like soft organic outfits, specialty made bed for his tiny newborn size. Our soft Flokati is one of my client parents favorite looks. Creates a cozy look. Let’s not forget the cutest lamb and deer outfits he modeled.

One of the best newborn photography with siblings sessions we did in our professional boutique studio in Mount Olive NJ was of these sweet sisters. Baby A was an amazing sleeper. With a few little soothing tricks she cozied herself right to sleep as big sis sat near. She was so helpful in selecting the many adorable headbands offered in the studio for her sister. How adorable is that!?

Sibling and newborn session warm up

Before the newborn photography with siblings photo take place, we start with the session with some newborn solo shots. This time is a great warm up for the sibling to get used to being at a new place. They can play in the play area, with provided toys, books, or simply watch their favorite show on our tv screen. Within an hour, siblings are ready to participate and feels like they belong. The first photos are of the siblings, which is the most precious to capture, don’t you agree? Soon after. we move on to the family portraits and end with a couple of baby on bean bed.

Are you getting ready to have your first newborn baby? Congratulations! This is such an exciting time for you and everyone in your family, and a little overwhelming (I know). As a Mount Olive NJ Newborn photographer, I often share my secrets with clients in soothing babies to help them sleep and be comfortable. Keep reading for techniques used at every newborn session that may be helpful to you.

Soothing your new baby

Whether it’s your first bundle of joy or your third, the soothing techniques can be helpful. I have been a newborn photographer since 2010 and safety trained with many renowned photographers in the field.
One of the many soothing technique I’ve used during a newborn photography sessions, is to keep baby warm. Newborns can not adjust to temperature changes. Babies can lose heat rapidly and their bodies are not ready to control their own temperature. Swaddling your baby is key to soothing and also helps prevent them from startling. At my photography studio the wrapping technique used mimics the way your baby was in your belly. The hands is positioned naturally, how it was positioned in the womb, up near the face just like that ultrasound photo. See photo below.

White Noise is a must for babies when it comes to soothing them. Remember your womb was really noisy so your baby is used to noise. My favorite for my newborn sessions is the Shusher. I have the App installed on my phone and play it at all my photography photo shoot.
Newborns suck to soothe, so I recommend a soothie pacifier, hospital NICU uses them. I also gently pass my index finger down the upper nose bridge, to calm baby.

Best time to photograph newborns

Most photographer prefers capturing newborns between 5-10 days old, I like photographing newborns between 8-21 days. The first week is an adjustment for moms and babies. This is the bonding time as well as learning to feed. Breast fed or bottle fed, babies at that first week will cluster feed. Take the time to bond and enjoy your new little bundle, but book your session before you enter your third trimester to secure a spot with your favorite professional NJ photographer.
