NEWBORN SESSION DETAILS
Newborn photo sessions take place at My spacious studio 375 US 46 Budd Lake NJ.
I am so excited for our time with you and your new baby. This time really only lasts for moments, and having all their little details captured will allow you to remember forever.
Here are some suggestions that we have found really help with insuring a successful session.
1. If nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy (i.e. pizza, hot sauce, etc.) that might upset baby’s tummy for 24 hours preceding your scheduled session.
2. Interact with and try to keep baby awake as much as possible before your session to ensure he/she is good and sleepy. It is important to keep him/her awake for 1 hour before the shoot. Without this, we spend too much time getting them to sleep and not as much time photographing them. I have had parents tell me that bathing baby or getting them naked are helpful. Also, the baby needs to be fed as much as possible during the 12 hours that precedes the session. This will allow for baby to sleep as deeply and as long as possible.
3. Please make sure your little one has a full belly for the session. Please feed your baby just before you leave for the studio. If baby is formula fed please bring extra formula and bottles. If baby is taking a longer time to feed……don’t stress. We want you and baby to be as relaxed as possible. Just send me a quick text to let me know you may be a little late and enjoy the feeding time.
4. Dress baby in loose fitting clothes to avoid any lines on skin – a simple button-up or Zip-up sleeper is best…….try to avoid anything that has to go over babies head. Avoid baby socks as well.
5. Bring a soothe/pacifier (used by hospitals) if he/she takes one. This is very helpful during the session because it is naturally soothing for babies to suck. Soothe pacifiers are of course only used at your discretion, but are a very useful tool with most babies even if they never took one. Please consider bringing one even if it is only for this couple of hours of time.
6. The studio newborn area will be kept at 78 degrees to keep your little one warm while in their birthday suit, so I recommend dressing in layers so that you can remove some if you get too warm. You will find me in yoga pants and T-shirts, so please feel free to dress comfy.
7. During the session sit back and relax. We won’t need much assistance, so take advantage of this time to rest. This is the time to catch up on the book you haven’t read since baby’s arrival, a tv series on your tablet you have missed, or even take a little snooze if you choose.
8. When you arrive please leave baby in their car seat. Newborn sessions generally take 2-3 hours, so please plan for that. If Mom, Dad, and/or siblings are participating in a few photos, please let me know in advance. I recommend neutral earth tones colors, short sleeves and fitted shirt/tops for Dad and Mom. A tank or tube top for Mom works too. Blouses should Not be too bulky. If Dad is comfortable bearing his chest for a few photos this can make for some very tender images. Gowns for mom’s are also available to use in studio.
9. If there are any special heirloom items (1) you would like photographed with baby please bring them along. If you have preference on colors to use or colors not to use, let me know before your session.
Feel free to contact me at anytime you have a question, I’m here for you every step of the way.
